Men's Soccer downs No. 12 Milligan to remain unbeaten

COLUMBIA, S.C. - The undefeated CIU men's soccer team welcomed No. 12 Milligan University (Tenn.) (9-1, 5-1 AAC) to Sessions Field Saturday night. The match was a much-anticipated affair as the squads are two of the best in the Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC). The Rams (11-0, 7-0 AAC) continue their record start to the season dethroning the Buffaloes 2-0 for their 11th win of the year. The Rams are now one game shy of tying the school record for most wins in a season. Saturday night's victory also gives them their second win over a ranked opponent as they defeated No. 25 Union College (Tenn.) back on Sept. 11.

Scoring Summary:
To be expected, both teams came to play on Saturday night. The battle between the Rams and Buffaloes was physical, with neither team backing down from their competition as they fought for every possession. Junior Forward, Praise Kabwe, would put the Rams on the board, scoring for the sixth time this season, at the 27:37 minute mark. Kabwe's goal would be the lone score of the first half.

The physical play continued in the second half, with both teams leaving it all out on the field. Senior midfielder Romulo Barreto would add to the Rams lead with a goal at the 56:15 minute mark to give CIU a two-score advantage. The Rams looked like they might win the contest convincingly but the Buffaloes would not back down. Milligan midfielder Simon Haraldstad would score with just under four minutes left to give his team life. However, the Rams anchored down and held off the Buffaloes with a 2-1 victory.

Head Coach Bill Brindley commented on the win, saying, "We're very happy with the result today. The guys have been working extremely hard and it showed tonight with a great team win."
