COLUMBIA, S.C. - CIU women's soccer took to the field Wednesday night for a contest with cross-town rival Columbia College (S.C.). The Rams (7-3, 4-2 AAC) are coming off of a 2-1 win over Bluefield (Va.) in their last game, while the Koalas (7-2, 6-1 AAC) defeated Johnson (Tenn.) 3-0 in their previous contest. Both teams would battle until the final whistle blew, but the Koalas would reign victorious over the Rams with a final score of 2-0.
Scoring Summary:
The battle between the Rams and Koalas was a physical one from the beginning. The Rams would hold off the Koalas attack until the 35:23 minute mark, when Isabella Gurrieri would strike for Columbia College, giving them the lead. They would carry that lead into halftime up 1-0.
The Rams would control more of the possession in the second half leading the half in both corner kicks with three and in shots with nine, but couldn't capitalize on those opportunities. To give them a two-score advantage, the Koalas would find the net again in the second half on a goal by Brooke Piscitello with just over three minutes left in the contest. Unfortunately, the Rams could not string together goals in the final minutes, and the Rams would fall to the Koalas at Sessions Field.
What's Next:
The Rams will quickly try to move past this loss as they welcome another Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) foe, Milligan University (Tenn.), to Sessions field on Saturday, Oct. 9 at 5 PM.
