COLUMBIA, S.C. - CIU volleyball defended their home court once again as they took care of business against Kentucky Chrisitan University (KCU) on Saturday morning. CIU defeated the Knights 3-0 (25-14, 25-19, 25-20) to move to 11-0 at home this year. CIU (26-7, 17-2 AAC) can stay undefeated at home for the season if they win their final home match coming up on Tuesday.
Saturday's contest was a mismatch from the start as KCU (6-19, 4-13) could not handle the firepower that the Rams have offensively. Abbey Kleist has been a big part of that potent offense as the sophomore recorded 11 kills against the Knights. Kleist was efficient with a .385 hitting percentage, while her sophomore counterpart Kira Rymer had a .476 hitting percentage and 11 kills. CIU had three players with double-digit digs as Kamelia De Jesus and Karla Rodriguez each had 11, while Alana Sanjurjo led the Rams with 14. De Jesus continues to make her case for Appalachian Athletic Conference Setter of the year with 32 assists. Ingrid Ferrari was once again the focal point of the Rams defense with three solo blocks. CIU had nine aces as a team, with Sanjurjo leading the way picking up four.
What Coach Amber Haver is saying:
"Nice to have been at home this weekend and earn a couple more wins. It's hard to play a five-setter on a Friday night and have a quick turn-around the next morning. As a program, we lacked some energy that we typically can manufacture. Luckily, we can rest up tomorrow before we get back in the gym on Monday to prepare for our last AAC regular season contest."
Up Next:
CIU will play their final regular-season game on Tuesday as they host St. Andrews University (N.C.) at 6:30 PM.
