Women's Volleyball named Co-AAC Regular Season Champions after win in regular season finale

COLUMBIA, S.C. - The CIU women's volleyball team closed out the 2021 regular season Tuesday night, knocking off St. Andrews (N.C.) 3-0 (25-18, 25-18, 25-22). The win was significant for several reasons; first of all CIU finishes the season undefeated on their home court at 12-0 and secondly, CIU picks up their first Appalachian Athletic Conference regular-season championship as they finish the season as co-regular season-champions with Bryan College. Finally, the evening was CIU volleyball's first ever senior night as Andrea Salas, Bruna Barrozo, Fabianne Besosa and Megan Lung were hall honored. It was a special evening for Salas and Barrozo especially as the two were freshman on CIU volleyball's inaugural team in 2018.

CIU was dominant in the first two sets but would face some pushback from the Knights in the third. However, the Rams would ultimately overcome St. Andrews to win in straight sets. Kira Rymer was once again superb for CIU notching 16 kills and a .333 hitting percentage. However, perhaps most impressive was the performance from Kamelia De Jesus as the four-time AAC Setter of the Week had 39 assists and 17 digs. Libero Karla Rodriquez finished second on the team in digs with 16, while Ingrid Ferrari led the Rams with three solo blocks. CIU had six aces as a team. The Rams tally their best record in program history as the Rams finish the regular season 27-7 overall and 18-2 in the AAC.

What Coach Amber Haver is saying:
First Senior Night in program history being the same night we are named Conference Champions, is pretty surreal. To say I'm proud is an understatement. How far we've come in four short seasons…God is so good. What He has done in this program and how He has worked in the lives of these young women, is nothing less than amazing. I am so thankful and honored He let's me be a part of it. Up Next:
Stay tuned to ciurams.com as the AAC Tournament first-round matchups will be announced shortly. CIU will enter the tournament as the No. 2 overall seed.
