COLUMBIA, S.C. - CIU men's soccer team welcomed the Bryan College Lions to Sessions Field at noon Saturday for their final home game of the season. The Rams fought until the final whistle but would come up short for the first time this season, losing 1-0 to Bryan. The Rams move to 15-1 overall and 11-1 in Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) play.
Scoring Summary:
Saturday's contest was a physical one on the pitch as 28 fouls were called and six yellow cards were handed out. The Lions took control of the game early, scoring in under two minutes with a goal from Zach Zehr on an assist from Cesar Castro. The Rams would play in five corner kicks but could not connect on their scoring chances. The Lions would edge the Rams in shots in the first half with four, with the Rams only recording one. The first half would end with a 1-0 advantage for the Lions.
The Rams would begin to play more aggressively in the second half as they put together more scoring opportunities. CIU took ten shots in the period, with several attempts just barely missing their mark. However, the Rams couldn't surmount the Lion's 1-0 lead and were handed their first loss of 2021
