DAYTON, Tenn. - CIU women's volleyball took on Bryan (Tenn.) on Saturday in a match with serious postseason implications. Coming into the match, Bryan (15-1, 19-4 AAC) and CIU were the only one-loss teams left in the Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC). After three extremely hard-fought sets, however, the Rams would pick up their second conference loss of the season, falling to the Lions 3-0 (19-25, 24-26, 24-26). Following the loss, CIU is now 22-7 overall and 13-2 in the conference.
After a slow start in the first set, CIU bounced back in the second two sets. The Rams had several leads in both the second and third sets, even leading by as much as 17-12 in set three. However, the Rams couldn't capitalize on several opportunities and fell in straight sets. CIU had two players in double-digit kills has Kira Rymer tallied 16, and Cintia Lorena recorded 11. CIU also had four players in double-digit digs as they picked up 80 digs as a team. Karla Rodriguez led CIU in digs with 18 as Fabianne Besosa had 16. Gabriela Vega has played well for CIU as of late as the junior picked seven kills and three blocks on the afternoon; Vega only recorded one attack error for a .400 hitting percentage. Kamelia De Jesus once again notched a double-double with 34 assists and 12 digs.
