Game Recap: Men's Soccer | | lthompson

Second half surge gives Rams dominant victory over Bluefield

BLUEFIELD, VA - The CIU men's soccer team hit the road Wednesday afternoon to take on the Bluefield College Rams. The Rams' second-half surge helped prove their dominance in this match-up as they dismantled Bluefield, 7 to 1 extending their win streak to nine games.

Scoring Summary:
Despite what the final score indicates, the game was tightly contested in the first half. CIU struck first on a goal by Eduardo Igor at the 25:09 minute mark. However, Bluefield would answer with a goal by Devin Calloway just two minutes later. Thus, the score would remain tied at 1-1 going into halftime.

In the second half, CIU would impose its will on Bluefield with six unanswered goals. The first two would come from Bryan Molina and then Jonathon Muller would find the net shortly after. Then, Jan Vozab would strike at the 77:36 minute mark, giving the Rams a 4 to 1 advantage. The Rams would then score almost instantly after on a strike from Rafael Carneiro, with an assist from Daniel Ospina. They would continue to put their foot on the gas with the last two goals by Rafeal Carneiro, his second of the game, and Lucas Galdino, on an assist from Noe Limas

The Rams put on a scoring clinic against Bluefield, giving them their highest number of goals scored in a game this season. CIU continues its best start to program history as they are 9-0 overall and 5-0 in the Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC).

What Coach Bill Brindley is saying:
"We are very happy with the result. Having been tied at halftime, we are extremely pleased with the way the boys rallied together in the second. Bluefield gave a lot of resistance but, in the end, our resolve and quality showed through."

What's Next:
The Rams aim for double-digit wins on the season in their next contest against cross-town rival Columbia College (S.C.) on Wednesday, Oct. 6 at 5 PM.
