BLUEFIELD, VA. - The CIU women's soccer team looked to get back in the win column Friday afternoon after coming up short in their last match against Montreat College (N.C.). The Rams took on another Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) opponent in the Bluefield College Rams (0-8-1, 0-2-1 AAC). CIU would defeat Bluefield 2-1 in the battle of the Rams, giving them their seventh win of the season. CIU moves to 7-3 overall and 4-2 in AAC play.
Scoring Summary:
The CIU Rams were on the attack early and often in this contest. They dominated the time of possession throughout the match, which gave them several opportunities to score. The Rams would take 19 total shots, 11 of them on goal. The first score for the Rams would come just before the 22:00 minute mark in the first half.
Haley Hernandez placed a corner kick beautifully into the box, and
Makenzy Dupree would head the ball into the back of the net, giving the Rams the lead.
CIU would continue to dominate the time of possession in the second half as well. The Ram's second goal came at the 53:19 minute mark as
Tara Collins would strike on a fantastic shot outside the box, giving the Rams a 2-0 advantage. With less than three minutes left to play in the contest, the Bluefield Rams would make it interesting, with a goal scored by Bella Cox to put her team within one score with a little under four minutes left in the second half. But CIU would hold off Bluefield's late-minute efforts and took home the victory 2-1.
