Columbia, SC- The women's soccer program took to the pitch at home on Wednesday, in near-perfect fall weather. The Rams would host a conference foe, Saint Andrews University, and after a tough defensive game both teams would leave empty-handed, as the final score would read 1-1.
Key Plays:
1st Half
- The Rams got off to a fast start, controlling much of the possession in the first Half.
- CIU's suffocating play paid off in the 10th minute as Madisyn Dupree gave the Rams a 1-0 lead. Dupree dribbled down into the box, beating two Knights defenders in the process to score her first goal of the season.
2nd Half
- The Rams commanded a 1-0 lead over the Knights heading into the 12th minute. However, the Knights were able to even the score as Zoie Steinkamp gave St. Andrews a goal to draw even with CIU.
- The Rams almost rallied as they had two opportunities in the final minute of the 2nd Half. Abi Bridge had a one on one opportunity with the keeper, but would be blocked by the St. Andrew's goalie.
- After 90 minutes, the game headed into two overtime periods to decide the match.
- At the end of what would be two overtime periods, neither team could pull ahead after solid defending played by both teams, as the game ended in a draw.
Key Players
CIU Midfielder Madisyn Dupree
- Dupree gave CIU their only goal of the game, showing off impressive footwork. She was also a key part of the midfield, helping control possession for most of the game.
