Gainesville, GA - The CIU women's soccer team traveled to Gainsville, Georgia on Saturday, to face off against the Brenau Golden Tigers. Last season CIU was able to edge Brenau by a score of 1-0 to secure a spot in the AAC tournament. Despite a late second half rally attempt, the Rams would fall to their conference foe by a score of 4-1.
Key Plays:
1st Half
- CIU goalkeeper Nadia Threatt tallied three saves in the first 20 minutes of the game, staving off Golden Tiger forwards.
- Brenau was awarded a penalty kick after a Janna Rickenbacker foul. Golden Tiger Jade Echols converted the chance, giving Brenau a 1-0 lead.
- Brenau forward Cindy Bonilla scored in the 5th minute, giving the Golden Tigers a 2-0 lead heading into halftime.
2nd Half
- Brenau wouldn't slow down heading into the second half, as forward Abbie George gave the Golden Tigers a 3-0 advantage in the 45th minute.
- Golden Tiger MacKenzie Callas gave Brenau their final goal of the night, leading them to a 4-0 lead.
- Despite the deficit, the Rams wouldn't go quietly as Rebekah Reinhard connected with a strike in the 20th minute to give CIU their only score of the game.
- Despite a late goal the Rams were unable to mount a comeback.
