Reinhard Leads Rams to Resounding Opening Day Win

Columbia, SC - The CIU women's soccer program took to the pitch for the first time in 2020 on Saturday against the Kentucky Christian Knights. Both teams were eager to get onto the field after what has been an unusually long offseason due to the coronavirus pandemic. With clear skies and 70-degree weather, Ram nation was treated to a convincing 3-0 victory over the Kentucky Christian Knights.

Key Plays 

First Half 

  •  30:51- Rams veteran goalkeeper Nadia Threatt stepped up early, making a key save against Natalie Huffman of KCU.
  • 23:59 - CIU forward Rebekah Reinhard converted on a deep shot five yards outside the box scoring CIU's first goal of 2020 to give the Rams a 1-0 lead. She was assisted by McKenzie Miller
  • 20:04 -CIU Midfielder Haley Hernandez put the ball in the back of the net, after a impresive assist from Rebekah Reinhard
  • 2:54 - Rams forward, Rebekah Reinhard scored her second goal of the contest after a cross from midfielder Talyor Kyle. 

Second Half 

  • 34:24: KCU keeper Morgan Bivens would save an attempt by CIU midfielder Taylor Kyle
  • 22:54: CIU freshman Amber McKinley would just miss the net with an impressive top self-shot. 

Key Players:
CIU Forward - Rebekah Reinhard 

  • Reinhard started her senior season with a bang scoring two goals and recording an assist. 

CIU Midfielder - Haley Hernandez

  • Hernandez scored a goal in the first half, while also making crucial plays in controlling possession in the midfield. 

CIU Goal Keeper - Nadia Threatt

  • Threatt registers her first clean sheet of the season. Threatt now has eight career clean sheets.

"Today's performance was from months of hard work and perseverance and it was fun to see them perform well together. Everyone did their part to stay healthy and to get back on the field strong. It was a great first match for the season and looking forward to seeing how we continue to grow as a team."
