Women's Soccer Wins Capital City Clash

Columbia, SC - The women's soccer program went on its first road trip of the season today, as the Rams battled the Koalas of Columbia College. Despite the similarities in name and location, this Capital City rivalry has seen no love lost between these two squads. CIU outplayed their cross-town foe on Tuesday night, as Coach Farnsworth-Lail and the Rams left Younts stadium with a 2-0 victory over the Koalas. 

Key Plays
First Half 

  • Senior Rebakah Reinhard crossed in a ball to MacKenzie Miller for a score, giving the Rams an early 1-0 lead.
  • Haley Hernandez created a lot of offensive opportunities up top, controlling possession for CIU. 

Second Half

  • CIU freshman Amber McKinley scored her first goal in the navy blue and gold. The Lawrenceville native landed an impressive header from a corner kick to give CIU a 2-0 lead. 
  • Lianna Gates showed great defensive technique, as she led the backline to yet another clean sheet. 

Key Players 

CIU Defender Amber McKinley 

  • Amber McKinley gave the Rams the 2-0 lead in the second half, scoring her first goal as a Ram in the process. 

CIU Goalkeeper Nadia Threatt 

  • Threatt led the Rams to their second shut out of 2020. Threatt brings her career clean sheet total to nine after an impressive performance.

"The girls battled well tonight. It was fun to see them work so well together, keeping possession but also have some fun going to goal"
