Bell's Homer Helps Rams to Win Over Buffs

Milligan College, TN – The CIU Baseball team (7-11) opened their second Appalachian Athletic Conference series Friday with a 7-4 win over Milligan College. CIU picks up its second AAC win in a row after defeating Reinhardt last Saturday. The Buffaloes of Milligan drop their second consecutive contest after falling to the Montreat Cavaliers earlier in the week. The Buffs are now 3-1 in conference play while the Rams move to 2-2 in the AAC.

How It Happened:

  • Shane Hammonds doubled to right field to start the game, but CIU wouldn't score its first run until the 2nd inning. Jake Lewis gave the Rams the 1-0 lead in the top of the 2nd after getting on base on a fielding error than then scoring on a wild throw two batters later.
  • The Buffs scored in the bottom of the 3rd inning, but CIU regained the advantage in the 4th after Kody Trujillo scored on the Hammonds single.
  • The Rams tacked on two more in the 7th after Buddy Bleasedale doubled, and then Robert Bell connected with a pitch for the two-run homer.
  • CIU picked up two runs in the 8th inning, after getting on base Carter Willis and Hammonds got across the plate on seperate missed catches by the Buffs.
  • At the top of the 9th inning, Jake Lewis continued a strong outing recording a double and then scored on the Kody Trujillo single to put the Rams up 7-2.

Game Notes:

  • Robert Bell recorded his second home run of the season.
  • Kody Trujillo and Shane Hammonds both notched their 8th RBI's of the year tying them for second in total RBI's on the team.
