JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. – The CIU Rams baseball team continued their conference series with Milligan College Saturday as they battled the Buffs in a doubleheader. Coming off a win the night before, CIU was unable to close out the series and would drop both games. CIU falls to 7-13 overall and 2-4 in the AAC.
GAME ONE MC 6 CIU 3:
How It Happened:
- Shane Hammonds was walked to start the game for CIU, and a Joshua Hernandez double helped Hammonds reach third. Buddy Bleasedale singled for the Rams to give Hammonds the score and Bleasdale would then score himself after the Rams loaded the bases and Gaven Causey was walked.
- The Buffs tied the game on a two-run homer in the bottom of the 1st. However, Kody Trujillo gave the Ram back the lead with a homer of his own in the top of the 6th.
- Despite trailing 6-3 in the top of the 9th, the Rams were able to get Robert Bell all the way to third base with the tying run up to bat. However, CIU would be unable to take advantage of the situation dropped game one of the doubleheader.
Game Notes:
- Kody Trujillo notched his first home run in a Rams uniform.
- Joshua Hernandez had two doubles bringing his season total to five.
- Tyler Parker (RHP) gave up only two runs in five innings while recording three strikeouts.
GAME TWO MC 3 CIU 1:
How It Happened:
- Shane Hammonds would once again bring a spark early. Hammonds singled to start the game for CIU, stole second, advanced to third on a wild throw, and then scored on a fielding error by the Buffs.
- Kody Trujillo recorded a double in the second inning but was unable to score.
- Trailing 2-1 the Ram's most promising opportunity for a comeback came in the 4th inning. CIU's Buddy Bleasedale singled and Alex Miller got on base on a wild throw. However, Miller was forced out on a Gaven Causey hit inning squashing the Rams comeback hopes as Milligan recorded the third out to retire the inning.
