Rams Beat Union in Late Game Thriller

Bourbonville, KY - The CIU women's soccer team was back on the road this weekend, as they looked to battle the Bulldogs of Union College. After disappointing losses to Reinhardt and Point University last week, CIU hoped to get back in the win column against Union. The Rams would go onto beat the Bulldogs in overtime in what was a thrilling contest. 

Key Plays 
First Half 

  • 32:29 CIU goalkeeper Nadia Threatt came up with a big save against Rafaela Oliveira to keep the score even. 
  • 29:33 Haley Hernandez had an opportunity to give CIU a lead, but would be stopped short by Union Goal Keeper Hailee Hinthorne. 

Second Half 

  • 35:55 Union College gained its first lead of the game with a score from Anna Vila, after a fumbled save from Nadia Threatt. 
  • 11:33 CIU goalkeeper Nadia Threatt came up big yet again as she would come up with a save against Union forward Julia Xavier. 
  • 2:31 As time looked to expire, the Rams found a way to equalize as senior Abi Bridge gave CIU its tying score. 

OT 

  • 00:27 Both teams appeared even through the overtime period; however, CIU would strike late as Leaoness Hinojos would score off an Amber McKinley pass to give the Rams a victory.

  • Bridge scored CIUs tying score late in the first half to send the game to overtime. 

CIU Forward - Leaoness Hinojos 

  • Hinojos would score the winning goal for the Rams with 27 seconds left in the overtime period.

"This team continues to amaze me in their perseverance through adversity. They battled for 100 minutes of play. Young ladies stepped up into roles that were needed and were able to be successful. We continuously build in training and implement a new mentality into games. It was a well-fought battle, and proud of them."

The team heads to Dayton, TN, this Wednesday to try and knock off Bryan College.
