Rams Remain Unbeaten After Downing Bears

Columbia, SC - The CIU men's soccer team returned to the pitch on Wednesday night after a long two week hiatus of play. The Rams looked to down Truett McConnell University on an ideal South Carolina fall evening. After 90 minutes, and an up and down game, CIU prevailed over its rival TMU.

Key Plays
First Half:

  • TMU struck first as the Bears were able to capitalize on a counter-attack opportunity to stun the Rams in the 39th minute.
  • CIU regained momentum in the 38th, scoring off of a Rafael Carneiro header, assisted by Praise Kabwe
  • CIU found the back of the net after an impressive series from Rahim Gordon and Rafael Carneiro, as Gordon would sink one for CIU to go up one score.
  • Minutes later, CIU would score yet again after an impressive goal from Romulo Barreto off of a free kick as the Rams commanded a 3-1 lead heading into halftime.

Second Half

  • CIU got off to a fast start in the second half as Praise Kabwe would score off of an impressive strike near the top of the 18-yard box. Rams center back Dean Daniels assisted Kabwe on the play.
  •  Just as the Rams thought they were pulling away from the Bears, TMU would score off of a defensive miscue from the Rams and pull within two.
  • TMU battled back in the game's final minutes, as they scored in the 18th minute to cut CIU's lead down to one.
  • Despite the changes in momentum in the second half, the Rams were able to put away the Bears and win their 3rd game of the season.
