Rams too much for Golden Tigers

Date: October 29th
Location: Sessions Field, Columbia SC
Kickoff: 3:00 PM

Scoring Summary:
12:34 CIU Kirsten Long

Columbia, SC - The Lady Rams returned home on Tuesday afternoon to compete in their final regular-season game of the year. Despite rainy conditions, the Rams were able to conduct a 1-0 victory over the Golden Tigers.

The Rams dominated the first half with nine shots, five of which were on net. The Golden Tigers only accumulated two shots on net in the first half. The Rams converted an opportunity in the 13th minute of play when Taylor Kyles crossed a corner kick into the box. Kirsten Long would score off of the corner from Taylor Kyles to give the Rams a 1-0 lead over the Golden Tigers. CIU held onto the lead heading into the second half.

CIU looked to extend their lead in the second half to secure a sure victory. However, the Golden Tigers would have a strong showing in the second half, making adjustments to counter the CIU attackers. Brenau registered four total shots on goal to the Rams one. Despite the Golden Tigers dominating time of possession in the second half, the Rams defense proved too much for Brenau as CIU sealed a 1-0 victory.

With this win, the Rams clinch an AAC quarterfinal home playoff berth. CIU will host Point University this Saturday, November 2nd, at 3:00 PM. This is the Rams 2nd year in a row qualifying for the AAC tournament. Last year, CIU fell short 1-0 to Truett-McConnell University in the AAC quarterfinals. This year, the Rams prepare for the 2019 postseason and hope to compete for an AAC tournament title.
