CIU men's soccer traveled to Greenville SC on Tuesday night to take on the Bob Jones University Bruins. The Rams left Greenville with a solid win to improve to 3-2 on the season.
The Rams dominated the first half of play with an early 9th-minute goal from sophomore forward Marcos Da Paz. CIU continued with early pressure as they would outshoot the Bruins 12-4 in the first half. The CIU forwards would break through the Bruin defense in the 29th minute with a goal from
Rahim Gordon. Marcos Da Paz would provide the assists on the goal. The Rams ended halftime with a 2-0 lead over the Bruins.
The Rams started the second half with continued pressure. Marcos Da Paz scored his second goal of the night in the 55th minute, assisted by
Rahim Gordon. The Bruins wouldn't go quietly however as they responded with a goal in the 68th minute from Peter Waddy to draw within two. CIU continued to attack and found the back of the net in the 78th minute.
Rahim Gordon would score his second of the night with an assist from Doran Batterman. The Bruins kept things interesting until the end with a late goal from Jordan Crews. CIU would end the game with 19 total shots. Rams goalkeeper
Hugo Lemus finished the night with 8 saves to preserve the victory. The final score was 4-2 Rams.
The Rams plan to carry this momentum into their next match on September 21st vs. Bryan College.
