Rams Clash with Crusaders

By: Scotty Grigsby

CIU women's soccer battled the North Greenville University Crusaders in scorching conditions on Wednesday. The Rams fought hard in the South Carolina heat but fell short to their upstate NCCAA South Region rival.

NGU started the game with a high press which gave them many early shooting opportunities. They were able to get the ball on the net three times in the first fifteen minutes of the game. The Crusaders continued to press their advantage with a total of thirteen shots in the first half to CIU's two. Rams goaltender Nadia Threatt would end the first half with six saves to keep the game even at 0-0.

The second half started with a quick strike from NGU. Crusader forward Ariana Parsons would score in the 46th minute with an assist from her teammate Kayla  Cruse. The Rams would continue to keep the game close until the 75th minute when a NGU goal from MacKenie Neff assisted by Megan Biehl would widen the Crusaders advantage. The Crusaders would strike again in the 90th minute with a goal from Ariana Parsons, her second of the night. CIU goalkeeper Nadia Threatt ended the night with a total of 14 saves but the Rams would fall short with a final score of 3-0.

The Rams hope to bounce back this Saturday against Kentucky Christian at noon.
