Dominate Pitching Leads the Rams to Two Victories

The Columbia International University Women's Softball team was back on the field after playing four competitive games this past weekend. The Rams stayed in South Carolina to take on Voorhees College in Denmark, SC. Dominate pitching and hot bats helped the Rams pick up two non-conference victories. In game one the Rams won 25-1 and won game two 18-0. The Rams made history with the twenty-five runs and twenty hits in game and limited the Tigers to only four hits in the two games.

Game One Highlights:
  • Robyn Andrews got the game started with a double to center. After Alyssa Allender reach first on a bunt single and Kayla Washington walked the bases were loaded. Trinity Jennings doubled to left field to score Andrews and Allender to take a 2-0 lead. Leslie Hicks would reach on a walk and Brittney Allender would walk as well to score Jennings. Elizabeth Allen stepped up with the bases loaded and singled to shallow left to put the Rams up 6-0. At the end of the top of the first the Rams were up 6-0
  • Alexis Holler struck out the first batter of the game. After a hit by pitch and a single the Tigers took advantage of a Rams error and scored their lone run
  • Washington started the inning of getting hit by the pitch and advanced to third on two stolen bases. Jennings stepped up to bat a hit a double to left center to score Washington. After a walk and a strikeout, Allender singled down the left field line to score Jennings. Allen came up and singled to left, but a Tigers error allowed Hicks and Allender to score. After Andrews was hit by a pitch, Kaylyn DeVaney singled to right and scored Allen and the Rams were up 11-0 
  • Holler struck out the side in the bottom of the second to keep the Rams ten run lead
  • After a quick first out in the top of the third, Hicks doubled to left center and then advanced to third on a stolen base. Madison Janning reach base on a walk. Allen came up with two outs and singled to left to score Hicks. Andrews hit a fly ball to left, but an error by the Tigers allowed Janning to come around to score. DeVaney came up and single to right to score Allen and the Rams were up 14-1 
  • The Tigers got their leadoff batter on with a hit by pitch, but was forced out on a fielders choice. After another fielders choice the Rams had two outs and the Tigers still had a runner on first. The Tigers would get that baserunner to third on a stolen base and defensive indifference, but Lana Fletcher struck out the next batter to get the Rams out of the jam
  • Washington and Mackenzie Tindle started the inning of with back-to-back walks. Washington and Tindle would advance to second and third on a stolen base. Hicks came up and singled to left to score Washington and advance Tindle to third. Janning joined in on the hit parade a tripled to deep left and score Tindle and Hicks. Allender followed the triple up with a double of her own to score Janning. Allender came around to score on a hit by pitch and her sister Alyssa came up with the bases loaded and ripped a double to deep left-center to clear the bases. Alicia Wallick came into hit for Washington and made the most of it with a single to short. Tindle followed that up with a single of her own to center and the bases were loaded again. The Rams would score three more runs to take a commanding 25-1 lead
  • In the bottom of the fourth the Tigers would get two baserunners in scoring position, but another strikeout by Fletcher got the Rams out of the jam
  • Neither team would score in the fifth inning and the Rams took game one 25-1
Game One Box Score Highlights: Game Two Highlights:
  • Vianka Morales and Brittney Allender started the game off by getting on bases via a walk and a hit by pitch. After two outs, Mackenzie Tindle singled to shallow center to score Morales. After the top of the first inning the Rams had a 1-0 lead
  • Alyssa Allender got the Tigers to go down in order on eight pitched with a groundout and two strikeouts
  • Kayla Washington started the top of the second off with a triple to deep left and would score on a Tigers error. Robyn Andrews tripled to deep left-center to score Alyssa Allender. With the bases loaded, Leslie Hicks singled to the pitcher mound and Andrews scored. Alexis Holler came up to bat and singled to shallow right-center and Morales and Allender would score to put the Rams up 6-0.The Rams would score four more runs to take a 10-0 lead after the top of the second inning
  • Two more strikeouts and a pop out to third got the Tigers to go down in order
  • The Rams would score two more runs in the top of the third on a Holler triple and a single by Tindle
  • Alicia Wallick came into pitch in the bottom of the third and got the Tigers three batters to strikeout
  • In the top of the fourth the Rams would score six runs on six hits and lead 18-0 
  • Neither team would score over the next inning and a half as the Rams would win game two 18-0
Game Two Box Score Highlights:
  • The Rams scored 18 runs on 18 hits...Alexis Holler and Kayla Washington had three hits a piece, while four other Rams had two hits...Holler led the way with four runs batted in and Washington had three runs batted in...The Rams had one double and three triples...Alyssa Allender pitched two innings giving up no runs and striking out four...Alicia Wallick pitched three solid innings giving up one hit and striking out five
Up Next: The Rams will return to conference play at home on Friday when they take on Point University at 1 & 3 PM.
