Softball Suffers Heartbreak on the Road
The Columbia International University Women's Softball team made the trip to Jacksonville, FL to take on Edward Waters College today. The Rams were coming off two wins against Voorhees College on Tuesday after having their games postponed yesterday due to rain. Last time the two teams met at CIU the games were close and competitive and nothing changed today as the Rams and Tigers battled, but the Tigers came out on top in both games, 3-2 and 2-1.
Game One Box Score Highlights:
Game Two Box Score Highlights:
- The Rams and Tigers were engaged in a battle throughout game two as the Rams had five hits...DeVaney, Kayla Washington, Picciano, Hicks, and Brittney Allender each had one hit a piece for the Rams...DeVaney had the Rams lone stolen base in the game...Alexis Holler started the game and pitched six solid innings only giving up nine hits...Two different Tigers had three hits
Coaches Comments:
- "The girls played really hard in both games and never gave up the fight to win," said Head Coach Sara Allen. "We had bases loaded in the top of the seventh, but couldn't pull it out and get the important runs across the plate. Game two was much of the same with a lot of chances to score, but we couldn't get the clutch hit again. Our defense was amazing, Kaylyn had a magic glove at shortstop and made two fantastic diving plays to save runs. Lana and Alexis pitched really well and Madison Janning threw out a lot of runners trying to steal to keep us in the game. It was unfortunate that we were not able to pull out the wins, but I think we can learn a lot from these games."
Up Next: The Rams will be back on the field on Tuesday as they travel to Virginia to take on Bluefield College at 2 & 4 PM.
