The Columbia International University Women's Softball team started on a four game road trip in Tennessee today against #23 ranked Tennessee Wesleyan University. The Rams were looking to pull off an upset over one of the top teams in the conference, while the Bulldogs were looking to get back in the win column after falling to Truett-McConnell University earlier in the week. The Rams challenged the Bulldogs and made them earn everything they got, but the Rams fell 9-0 and 9-3.
Game One Highlights:
- The Rams got a baserunner on in the top of the first with Alyssa Allender reaching on a Bulldogs error, but were unable to score
- The Bulldogs would get a run on the board on back-to-back hits in the bottom of the first
- The Rams would go down in order in the top of the second
- In the bottom of the second the Bulldogs would score six runs on six hits that included three singles, one double, and one triple
- The two teams would go down in order over the next inning and a half
- The Bulldogs would load the bases with one out in the bottom of the fourth and would get a run across on a ground out to second. The Bulldogs would push another run across the board on a single to third and lead 9-0 after four innings
- The Rams would go down in order in the top of the fifth and drop game one 9-0
Game One Box Score Highlights:
- The Rams put the ball in play as they only struck out twice, but had just one hit as the Bulldogs defense was solid...Robyn Andrews had the Rams lone hit...Alexis Holler and Alicia Wallick each saw time on the mound...The Bulldogs had twelve hits with Baylee Sutton leading the way with three
Game Two Highlights:
- The Rams got a runner on base right away as Robyn Andrews reached on a walk. Kaylyn DeVaney singled to left and Andrews made it the whole way around to score on the single and DeVaney advanced to third...After an out Kayla Washington hit a deep ball to right and DeVaney would score as the Rams took an early 2-0 lead
- In the bottom of the first the Bulldogs would pressure the Rams as they had runners of second on third, but Alyssa Allender worked her way out of the jam as the next two batters grounded out to third and popped out to third
- Trinity Jennings singled through the hole at shortstop and Leslie Hicks laid down a perfect bunt to give the Rams two baserunners with just one out. Brittney Allender put down a sacrifice bunt to advance the runners to second and third, but the Rams were unable to get a run across the board
- The Bulldogs would get on the board in the bottom of second as they scored two runs on a single to tie the game
- The teams would go scoreless in the third inning and the game remained tied at two
- In the top of the fourth the Rams got runners on first and second again, but a line out and pop out ended the inning
- The Bulldogs regained the lead in the bottom of the fourth as they scored on a pop out in foul territory down the first base line
- DeVaney started the inning with a walk and advanced to third on a double by Allender. Mackenzie Tindle pitch hit and reached first on a fielder's choice that scored DeVaney and advanced Allender to third. After two more outs the inning ended, but the Rams tied the game at three
- In the bottom of the fifth and top of the sixth the teams went down in order
- The Bulldogs blew the game open in the bottom of the sixth with six runs of five hits to lead 9-3
- The Rams went down in order in the top of the seventh and fell 9-3
Game Two Box Score Highlights:
- The Rams had six hits in game two with Alyssa Allender and Leslie Hicks having two hits a piece...Allender had the Rams lone extra base hit with a double...Allender also pitched four solid innings giving up two earned runs...The Bulldogs had ten hits with Olivia Housewright leading the way with two hits and four runs batted in
