WALESKA, GA - The CIU Women's volleyball team took part in a weekend tri-match hosted by conference opponent Reinhardt University. The first matchup would see the Rams take on the host Eagles who are currently sitting on top of the Appalachian Athletic Conference with a record of 11-0. The Ram's second opponent was fellow NAIA member Faulkner University, out of the state of Alabama and the Southern States Athletic Conference. Despite two hard-fought matches, CIU would, unfortunately, leave the afternoon with two more losses on their record.
How it Happened
The Rams would be unable to find their stride through the first match against the conference-leading Eagles. The first set of the match would be the closest for the Rams as they would fall by just seven, 25-18. The next two sets would see the Rams slip away by double digits, 25-15 and 25-13. Freshman Graycie Michelson was the only Ram to record an ace on the match, while Andrea Salas and Carla Cauchi fought off the Eagle attack with a combined fourteen digs. Megan Lung who entered the match leading the conference in total kills added nine to her total in the loss
The second match would again see the Rams drop three sets, this time to Faulkner University. The first set would see the Rams fall by nine, 25-16 but would only drop the second set by four, 25-21. The Rams would lead 13-11 in the third set but where unable to close and Faulkner would hold on 25-17. The Rams would struggle with receptions allowing eleven aces on the match. However, CIU was able to record four of their own with three coming from De'Asija Harden. The Rams also saw some positive defensive play with five blocks, two of which were recorded by sophomore Aniya Marshall. Carla Cauchi had a game-high thirteen digs while Megan Lung once again led the team with eleven kills.
