CIU men's soccer returned home on Saturday night to take on the Union College Bulldogs. While the Rams battled hard, they would fall short in a physical contest.
It didn't take long for the first goal of the game with a score from Joe Daubly in the 3rd minute of play. The goal would bounce off the crossbar and barely inch into the net before bouncing out. The Rams bounced back defensively after the early goal and shut down the Union attackers. The game was very physical, with 26 fouls between both teams in the first half. The Bulldogs lead the Rams 1-0 heading into the break.
The Rams burst into the second half with a goal from Marcos Da Paz. The sophomore forward chipped in a goal over the Union goalkeeper. CIU looked to have evened the momentum of the game as they pressed up to gain an advantage over the Bulldogs. The tie would last only 10 minutes, however, as Union College would score from a free kick in the 60th minute. The Bulldogs sat back defensively, disallowing any real scoring opportunities for the Rams. Union managed to hold on and get the 2-1 win over the Rams after a very physical game that saw 35 fouls between both teams.
The Rams hope to bounce back against Montreat College on Tuesday, October 8th
