CIU was back on the pitch during a rainy fall morning as they looked to take on conference rival, the Columbia College Koalas. Even though the weather was less than ideal, the Rams put together a 2-0 victory over the Koalas.
The Rams seized the momentum of the game early with two quick shots by the CIU forwards. The Ram attackers would convert an opportunity in the 8th minute of play.
McKenzie Miller headed a cross from
Taylor Kyle into the net to give the Rams a 1-0 lead. It was all CIU in the first half, with the Rams out shooting Columbia Colleg 7 to 1. CIU would keep control of the lead going into halftime at 1-0.
The second half would see the Rams continue to control the momentum of the game. The CIU defense locked down any shooting chances from the Koalas as they allowed no shots on net in the second half. The Rams would extend their lead in the 63rd minute with a strike from
Kaylyn Hernandez, assisted by her younger sister,
Haley Hernandez. The Rams smothered any opportunity for a come back by the Koalas, and would claim a 2-0 victory. Rams improve to 8-7 overall and 7-4 in the AAC.
CIU looks to its next contest against Reinhardt University on Wednesday, October 23rd.
