CIU women's soccer was back on the pitch on Wednesday night as they battled the Buffaloes of Milligan's collage. While the Rams got off to a fast start, they would end up falling short to the Buffs.
The first half began with a close call as a mulligan forward would get a fast break but miss just wide of the net. On the ensuing play, Rams midfielder
McKenzie Miller sent a long ball to
Tara Collins. The Milligan goalkeeper challenged Collins coming out of the net just outside the box. Collins recognized this aggressive advance, and shot the ball passed the keeper for a CIU score. Milligan would rebound from this initial set back with immediate pressure. The Rams defense wouldn't budge, and the half would end with a 1-0 CIU lead.
The Rams looked to hold onto the momentum heading into the second half. However, Milligan managed to even the game with a goal in the 47th minute. Milligan again scored a few moments later in the 49th minute of play. The Rams looked to rally and re-gain some offensive momentum. Milligan scored their 3rd and final goal of the evening in the 61st minute. The Rams continued to attack but were unable to convert a scoring chance. The Rams would fall to Milligan 3-1.
CIU hopes to bounce back this Saturday on senior day against Columbia College at 5:00 PM
