Lung and Harden Help Rams Nab Win

COLUMBIA, SC - CIU Women's Volleyball remains undefeated against teams in the same area code, as CIU trounced Allen University for the third time this season. CIU entered the night one match below a .500 winning percentage. However, the Rams would even their wins and losses with a 3 sets to 1 match win over the Yellow Jackets. The win gives the Rams a 4-6 record in the conference keeping them securely in the 5th spot of the Appalachian Athletic Conference South Division.

How It Happened

CIU would surprisingly lose the 1st set 25-23  however, the next three sets would be all the Rams. Behind a combined 46 kills from De'Asija Harden and Megan Lung the Rams attack would be too much for the Yellow Jackets. CIU would win the next three sets 25-19, 25-15, 25-16. CIU would dominate in many areas but the key to the Ram's victory would come from their serves. CIU recorded 11 aces to Allen's 4. The majority of the Ram's aces came from setter Mackenzie Sanchez who posted 5 on the night. Sanchez also had a season-high of 48 assists, thanks in part to the accurate hitting of Lung and Harden. Carla Cauchi would be a key component for CIU stepping up with 22 digs and 3 aces.

What Coach Haver is saying

"We had an opportunity tonight to run a few different lineups. With our lack of height in the front row, blocking is still proving to be a challenge for us. However, serve receive and the back-row defense was very strong tonight. I am pleased to add another conference win this evening".

Notable National Numbers

  • The Rams rank #1 in the NAIA with total aces with 210

  • Freshman Megan Lung comes in at #8 in the nation at total kills with 278 while sophomore De'Asija Harden comes in just behind at #14 in the country with 263

  • Carla Cauchi, Lily Tang, and Bruna Barrozo all rank in the top 50 in the country in total service aces.
