Rams Win Final Home Game of 2018

This past week was a busy one for the Columbia International University Men's Basketball team as they took a break from games and hit the books for final exams. The Rams played their final home game of 2018 tonight against the Eagles of Trinity Baptist College. The Rams and Eagles were even most of the game, but a few runs by the Rams propelled them to a 93-75 victory. With the win the Rams move to 5-6 on the year, while the Eagles fall to 4-7.

1st Half Highlights:
  • The Eagles would get the first points of the night, but a two by Brandon Doss gave the Rams their first points of the game
  • The Rams would tie the game at seven off a three by Eric Graham
  • The Rams next six points would come off thunderous dunks by Tyrone Dantzler Jr. and Elijah Spalding
  • The two teams would go back and forth as the lead exchanged hands and the game was tied numerous times
  • The Eagles would tie the game at 29 with just under eight minutes left in the half
  • The Rams would go on a small 7-0 run off points by Graham, Corey Benton, and Jeff McIlwain
  • At the half the Rams would lead the Eagles 45-38
2nd Half Highlights:
  • The Eagles came out of the half inspired and took the lead from the Rams as they opened the half on a 10-0 run
  • Benton would give the Rams their first points of the half before Zach Norris got on the board
  • Back to back three by Damian Hurta gave the Rams a nine point lead
  • The Rams would push their lead to double figures and take their biggest lead of the second half at 14 points after a layup by McIlwain
  • The Eagles would trim the Rams lead to single digits one more time, but the final five minutes was all Rams
  • Hurta capped off the night for the Rams with a fastbreak layup to win 93-75
Box Score Highlights:
  • The Rams shot 44.8% (30-of-67) from the field and were 24-of-33 from the free throw line, while the Eagles shot 44.3% (27-of-61) from the floor and were 9-of-20 from beyond the arch...The Rams were all over the boards with 47 rebounds...The Rams also had 21 assists...Five Rams finished with double figure points and all the Rams had a point tonight...Jeff McIlwain had a career game with 20 points and nine rebounds...Eric Graham had a solid night with 16 points, eight rebounds, and six assists...Brandon Doss had 15 points, while Corey Benton and Damian Hurta each had 11 points...Tyrone Dantzler Jr. chipped in with seven rebounds, five assists, and five points...Brandon Tucker led the Eagles with 19 points
Up Next: The Rams will have less than 24 hours off as they travel to Greenville, SC tomorrow to take on Bob Jones University at 4 pm.
