Second Half Comeback Propels the Rams past the Bruins

Less than twenty-four hours after taking on Trinity Baptist College at home, the Columbia International University Men's Basketball team was back on the court. The Rams traveled to Greenville, SC to take on the Bruins of Bob Jones University. A strong second half on offense and defense lifted the Rams past the Bruins, 76-68. With the win the Rams move to 6-6 on the year, while the Bruins fall 1-11 on the year.

1st Half Highlights:
  • The Rams raced out to an early 6-0 lead off four points by Corey Benton and two by Tyrone Dantzler Jr.
  • The Rams would keep scoring as they took an early 15-3 lead four minutes into the game
  • However, the Bruins would storm back and take their first lead of the game 21-20 with ten and a half minutes left in the half
  • The two teams would tie at 27, but the Bruins would score the next six points to regain the lead
  • The two teams would trade baskets back and forth, but the Bruins would score the final four minutes of the half to lead 48-39
2nd Half Highlights:
  • Benton would score the first points of the second half on a layup
  • The Bruins would go on a 8-0 run to take a 15 point lead, but a layup by Eric Graham stopped the Bruins run
  • The Rams would trim the lead to single digits and with twelve and a half minutes left in the game were only down 60-54
  • The Rams would regain the lead, 63-62 after three straight points by Jeff McIlwain
  • The teams would tie at 66 and 68, but the Rams would take the lead off a three by Damian Hurta
  • The Rams would score the final five points of the game and win 76-68
Box Score Highlights:
  • The Rams shot 37.1% (23-of-62) from the floor and were a fantastic 20-of-25 from the free throw line, while the Bruins shot 36.5% (23-of-63) from the field and were 4-of-22 from beyond the arch...The Bruins held a small 35-32 rebounding advantage...The Rams had 14 assists compared to seven turnovers, while they forced the Bruins into 13 turnovers...Corey Benton led the Rams with 26 points and chipped in with five rebounds and four assists...Brandon Doss finished with 14 points, while Jeff McIlwain had a near double-double with 13 points and eight rebounds...Jayson Barnhart led all scorers with 30 points and had four rebounds
Up Next: The Rams will travel to Melbourne, FL to take part in the Florida Tech Winter Classic. The Rams will take on host Florida Tech on December 18 at 6 pm and will play against Embry-Riddle on December 19 at 3:30 pm.
