Rams Slay the Knights

The Columbia International University Men's Basketball team went into Thanksgiving break on a high after beating NCAA Division II North Greenville University. The Rams were back on the court tonight at St. Andrews University. The Rams put together a full forty minutes and moved back to a five hundred record with a 79-70 victory.

1st Half Highlights:
  • Jeff McIlwain would score the first point of the night on a free throw, however, the Knights would score the next four points
  • The Rams would get back in the groove as they would hit three three pointers in a row with two by Brandon Doss and one by Damian Hurta
  • Another three by Erick Bennett Jr. would push the Rams lead back to nine, 17-8
  • The Rams would take their first double digit lead of the game with under twelve minutes left in the half after two free throws by Julius Chamble
  • The Knights would trim the Rams lead to four with under ten minutes left in the half
  • With under two minutes left in the half the Rams lead would be back at nine after a three by Hurta
  • At the half the Rams were up 41-36
2nd Half Highlights:
  • Just like the first half, McIlwain got the scoring started for the Rams
  • The Knights would trim the Rams lead to three on multiple occasions, but after a couple baskets and a three by Elijah Spalding the Rams lead was back to eight
  • The teams would go basket for basket for a while, but with just over five minutes left in the game the Rams built an eleven point lead off a three by Eric Graham
  • The Knights would try to fight back in, but key baskets by the Rams lifted them to a 79-70 victory
Box Score Highlights:
  • The Rams had a solid shooting night as they shot 42.4% (28-of-66) from the floor and were 13-of-31 from beyond the arc, while the Knights shot 44.4% (28-of-63) from the field and were 8-of-16 from the free throw line...The Rams dominated with 45 rebounds compared to the Knights 30...The Rams also limited the turnovers to 11, while having 15 assists...Corey Benton led the Rams with 16 points, seven rebounds, and six assists...Elijah Spalding had a solid 15 points off the bench, while Jeff McIlwain had seven points and seven rebounds...Cameron Grigsby led the Knights with 19 points and six rebounds
