For the first time ever the Columbia International University Men's Soccer team received an at-large bid to the NCCAA National Championships. The Rams were awarded the eighth overall seed and opened the tournament against number two seed Grace College Lancers. The Rams and Lancers were tied at half, but three goals for the Lancers in the second half pushed them past the Rams, 4-2.
1st Half Highlights:
- The Lancers got off the first shot off the game, but the Ram Marcos da Paz followed with a shot of his own just wide
- The Lancers would get on the board in the fourth minute and take the lead
- The Rams and Lancers would trade shots, but each goalie was up to the challenge
- In the thirty-fourth minute the game was delayed due to weather conditions, but it might have been the break that the Rams needed as two minutes after the break Doran Battermann tied the game of an assists by Ricky Prestridge. Battermann's goal is the first ever for the Rams at the NCCAA National Championships
- The Rams and Lancers went into half tied 1-1
2nd Half Highlights:
- The Rams came out attacking as they would get off a couple shots and receive a couple corners, but the score remained tied
- With just under twenty minutes left in the game a foul by the Rams gave the Lancers a penalty kick and they would convert to lead 2-1
- Just three minutes later the Lancers would score their lead goal and take a two goal lead
- The Lancers would add another goal with eleven minutes left in the game
- With six minutes left in the game Marcos da Paz would get the Rams back on the board and trim the Lancers lead to two
- As the final horn sounded the Rams fell 4-2 in the first game of pool play
