Game Recap: Women's Soccer | | Mitchell Strauser

Rams Moving On After Winning in Penalty Kicks

The Columbia International University Women's Soccer team has the priviledge of hosting the NCCAA South Region Tournament this year. The Rams opened up the tournament with a game against the Barons of Brewton-Parker College. Tonight's game was moved to Columbia High School after all the rain the Columbia Area received overnight. Both teams were not used to the turf or the dimensions, but had chances to win it in regulation and overtime. After a number of penalty kicks the Rams finally won it and advanced to the region championship.

1st Half Highlights:
  • The Rams came out ready as they got off the first four shots of the game with Alanna Battermann's being saved by the keeper
  • The Barons would push it down the field right after the save and have a great chance of their own, but a kick save by Wammock kept the game scoreless
  • Battermann and Rebecca Giancana had chances later in the half, but both balls rang off the crossbar
  • At the end of the half the game remained scoreless with the Rams dominating in the shots department
2nd Half Highlights:
  • Just fifty seconds into the half the Barons would get off a good shot on goal, but Wammock was there for the save
  • The Barons got off a couple more shots, but the Rams only got off one in the second half and it went high
1st Overtime Highlights:
  • It was all Rams as they got off two quick shots, however, each went wide
  • Giancana had chances to close the game out, but back to back saves by the keeper sent the game into double overtime
2nd Overtime Highlights:
  • Just like the first overtime the Rams came out looking for the golden goal
  • The Rams got off five shots, but none of them found the back of the net
  • The Rams and Barons were heading into penalty kicks
