Barreto's Overtime Goal Lifts the Rams to Victory

The Columbia International University Men's Soccer team traveled to Milligan College to close out the regular season. The Rams had to win to be in the conference playoffs and the Buffaloes were fighting for seeding in the tournament. The Rams and Buffaloes battled all night, but in the second overtime it was a goal by Romulo Barreto that gave the Rams a 3-2 victory. With the win the Rams move to 11-6 on the year.

1st Half Highlights:
  • The Buffaloes came out firing early as they got on the board just over six minutes into the game
  • At the thirty-one minute mark the Buffaloes were awarded a penalty kick, but Hugo Lemus stepped up for the Rams and saved the penalty kick
  • The Rams would start to pepper the goal with shots and got a lot of corners out their shots
  • With just three minutes left in the half the Rams were able to even the score at one as Romulo Barreto found Nathanael Ruth for the goal
2nd Half Highlights:
  • The Rams and Buffaloes would come out firing as each team was looking to gain an advantage
  • The Rams would score their second goal of the game at the 33:35 mark as Jeremiah Ruth found Ricky Prestridge
  • Just under the twenty minute mark the Buffaloes tied the game two
  • The teams would continue to go back and forth as Ruth got a shot off with seven seconds left, but it was onto overtime
1st Overtime Highlights:
  • The Rams would get off the first two shots of the overtime
  • After an extra ten minutes the teams were heading to another overtime
2nd Overtime Highlights:
  • The Rams best opportunity of the night came on a penalty kick, but the kick was saved by the keeper
  • The Rams continued to pepper the goal and with just under two minutes left Ruth found Barreto for the win, 3-2

  • The Rams had a great offensive game as they had 29 shots with 17 on goal, while the Buffaloes were not far behind with 20 shots and 10 on goal...The Rams had an outstanding 15 corners...Romulo Barreto led the Rams with the game winning goal and an assist...Nathanael Ruth also had a goal and assist...Ricky Prestridge had the other goal, with Jeremiah Ruth picking up the assist...Hugo Lemus had seven saves for the Rams...Roberto Fernandez Garrido had one goal and eleven shots for the Buffaloes
Up Next: With the win the Rams will be one of the top eight teams in the conference and move onto the conference tournament. With points from conference wins the Rams will be the sixth seed with an opponent to be determined. The Rams semi-final game will take place on November 2.
