Rams Win a Thriller Over the Wildcats

The Columbia International University Women's Volleyball team has been in a funk of late and the Rams were looking to snap out of it as they took on NCAA Division 2 Fort Valley State University. The Rams and Wildcats played a thrilling game, but in the end it was the Rams who were victorious in five sets. The Rams snap their losing streak and move their record to 12-17 on the year.

1st Set Highlights:
  • The Rams and Wildcats went back and forth in the opening points as they tied at two, three, six, seven, and eight
  • The Wildcats would gain a small advantage over the Rams, but the Rams fought back and pulled within two on multiple occasions with the last one being off a kill by De'Asija Harden
  • The Wildcats would go on to win set one 25-21
2nd Set Highlights:
  • The Wildcats would take an early lead in the second set, however the Rams would fight back to tie the game at six. The Rams would pick up points from Wildcats mistakes as well as kills by CJ Hinson
  • The Wildcats would take the lead back, but the Rams would tie the game at 14
  • The Rams would take their first lead in the second set off a kill by Hinson
  • The Rams would go on a run over the next five points to takea 20-14 lead
  • The Rams would win set two 25-19
3rd Set Highlights:
  • The teams went back and forth at the beginning of the third set, but after the set was tied at six the Rams went on a run and scored the next eight points. The Rams got kills from Tyliahia Williams, Harden, and serving aces by Hinson
  • The Rams would jump their lead to double digits and put the game away easily
  • The Rams won game one 25-11 off an ace by Aniya Marshall
4th Set Highlights:
  • The Rams and Wildcats opened the fourth set going point for point
  • The Wildcats would take the lead as they were wanting to push the game to five sets
  • The Rams would pull within two off an ace by Mackenzie Sanchez
  • The Wildcats would hold onto their lead and force a fifth set after winning set four 25-18
5th Set Highlights:
  • The Rams jumped out to a commanding 7-2 lead off Wildcats mistakes, ace by Andrea Salas, and kills by Hinson, Harden and Lily Tang
  • The Wildcats would pull within two of the Rams, but the Rams would hold onto their lead and win 15-12 off a kill by Hinson
Box Score Highlights:
  • The Rams doubled the kills that the Wildcats had as the Rams had 64, while the Wildcats had 37 points...The Rams also had 11 aces compared to the Wildcats 3...Mackenzie Sanchez had a career night as she had 54 assists...CJ Hinson had a career night as well with 26 kills and 11 digs...De'Asija Harden was not far behind as she had 21 kills herself...Bruna Barrozo chipped in with 11 digs...Nia Bell led the Wildcats with 15 kills.
Up Next: The Rams will have tomorrow off before they play two games on Friday. The first game against Pensacola Christian College is scheduled for 5 pm with the game against Trinity Baptist College to follow.
