Rams Dominate Warriors

The Columbia International University Men's Soccer team was coming off a hard defeat against Union College as they took to the road to take on Southern Wesleyan University. The Rams dominated from start to finish and won 4-1. With the win the Rams move to 10-6 on the season.

1st Half Highlights:
  • The Rams came out firing as they got off three shots in the first nine minutes, but couldn't find the weak spot behind the keeper
  • The Warriors would get off a couple shots, but none would make it on goal
  • At the 23:32 mark the Rams were awarded a penalty kick after a Warriors foul in the box. Marcos da Paz took the penalty kick and deposited it in the net to give the Rams the early lead
  • The teams would go back and forth, but with just 35 seconds left to play in the half, da Paz would give the Rams a 2-0 lead off a pass from Jeremiah Ruth
2nd Half Highlights:
  • The second half started out with the teams going back and forth
  • The Warriors got on the board first in the second half to cut the Rams lead to one
  • Just a couple minutes after the Warriors goal the Rams regained their two goal lead as Romulo Barreto found the back of the net
  • The Rams would add an insurance goal with just over a minute to play as Karabo Maretlane scored his first goal of hist collegiate career
Box Score Highlights:
  • The Rams were all over the ball tonight as they had 25 shots with 12 on goal, while the Warriors had 17 shots with six on goal...The Rams had three corners and the Warriors had five...Hugo Lemus had five saves for the Rams...Marcos DaPaz led the Rams with two goals...Romulo Barreto and Karabo Maretlane had the other goals...Miguel Gallegos had the Warriors goal...This was the first time CIU has ever beaten Southern Wesleyan.
Up next: The Rams will be back in action on Saturday when they travel to Milligan College for their last regular season conference game. Kick-off is scheduled for 7 pm.
