Complete Team Victory Lifts Rams Past Bruins

Box Score

The Columbia International University men's basketball team was back in action today after falling to Montreat College yesterday. The Rams had to forget that game quickly as they faced off against rival Bob Jones University this afternoon. The Rams and Bruins battled all throughout the game, but a complete team victory lifted the Rams to a 70-65 victory over the Bruins. With the win the Rams move to 2-2 on the season, while the Bruins fall to 1-5.

The Bruins jumped out in front of the Rams to begin the game, but the Rams would battle back and take a five point lead just over four minutes into the game thanks to a Jordan Dillingham layup. The Rams would limit the Bruins scoring and the Rams would hit their shots as Damian Hurta got hot from behind the three point line and helped the Rams push their lead as high as 13. The Bruins would trim the Rams lead to four and the Rams would take a 42-38 lead into the half.

The Rams and Bruins would battle to begin the second half as the Bruins would tie the game at 49 with 15:33 to go. The Bruins would then take the lead, but after three made three pointers from Juraj Rovis and two from Hurta the Rams regained a six point lead. The Bruins would tie the game once again this time at 59 with 7:47 to go. That was the last time the Bruins would match the Rams as the Rams would regain their lead after a three pointer from JC Cavin. Dillingham would ice the game with two made free throws to give the Rams a 70-65 victory.

The Rams were led by Damian Hurta as he had a game high 25 points with 17 coming in the first half...Hurta made six three pointers which is double what the Bruins hit all game...Gabe Kirk and Juraj Rovis each had 10 points for the Rams...Eight different Rams scored today...The Rams dished out 16 assists and forced 19 Bruins turnovers...Quez Fisher led the Bruins with 23 points and 16 rebounds.

"The guys made plays on both end of the court. It was a great team effort from start to finish. I'm really proud of the guys and their ability to bounce back from a tough loss last night," said Coach Marshall Tague.

The Rams will be back in action on Tuesday as they travel to North Charleston to take on NCAA DI opponent Charleston Southern University at 7 p.m. If you can't make it follow the game through the live stats or video that will be provided.
