Box Score The Columbia International University men's basketball team took to the road as they traveled to Greenville, SC to take part in the Bruins Invitational. The Rams took on Montreat College in the first game of the tournament. The two teams battled throughout the game as it was closely contested, but in the end the Rams fell to the Cavaliers 83-79. The Rams drop to 1-2 on the season, while the Cavaliers move to 3-0.
The Rams jumped out to an early 13-6 lead just over four minute into the game, but the Cavaliers would hit a couple shots to tie the game at 13 just a couple minute later. The Rams would then go on a 8-0 run that was highlighted by five points from Juraj Rovis. The two teams would continue to battle as neither team was able to pull away and take a commanding lead. The Cavaliers would go into the half with a 36-35 lead.
The Cavaliers would keep their lead for just over four minutes into the half, until the Rams were able to tie the game at 43 after a three point play from Dylan Smith. After that play the Rams would regain their lead, but the Cavaliers kept it close and tied it at the ten minute mark. The Cavaliers would regain their lead for just under two minutes before two free throws from JC Cavin tied it. The two teams would continue to battle with neither taking a clear advantage.
The Rams would take the lead once again with just over three minutes remaining. The Rams would push their lead as high as six, but just couldn't hold on as the Cavaliers would tie the game at 77. The Cavaliers would go on to take the lead and hold on for the victory as the Rams weren't able to find the shots to push the game to overtime.
The Rams once again had balanced scoring as three different Rams scored in double digits...Nayquan Wilson led the Rams with 15 points as he hit a game high 5 threes...Damian Hurta and Cavin each had 12 points...The Rams dished out 17 assists and grabbed 36 rebounds...Austin Butler scored 16 points for the Cavaliers.
"It's not easy to win ball games. We needed to do a few more little things at the end to keep our lead and win it. We are making progress so we just need to stay the course and continue to work," said Coach Marshall Tague.
The Rams will be back in action tomorrow afternoon as they will take on Bob Jones University at 4 p.m.
