WEST POINT, Ga. — CIU women's soccer rallied late to earn a 2-2 draw against Faulkner on Saturday, overcoming a second-half deficit with an own goal in the 89th minute.
CIU (1-0-1) took an early lead when Sydney Thoman scored in the 13th minute, giving the Rams a 1-0 advantage. Thoman's goal was CIU's first of the match and her first shot was on target.The Rams carried the lead into halftime despite being outshot 4-3 in the opening 45 minutes. Goalkeeper Hailey Resetar kept CIU in front with four first-half saves, including stops on two shots in the opening 20 minutes.
Faulkner scored twice in a five-minute span early in the second half to take a 2-1 lead. CIU continued to push for an equalizer, with Resa Slack forcing a save in the 64th minute and Olivia Young putting a shot on goal earlier in the half.The Rams finally broke through with 1:10 remaining when an own goal brought the match level at 2-2.
CIU finished with five shots, including four on target, while Faulkner recorded seven shots and seven on target. Resetar made five saves in all 90 minutes.
The Rams will look to build on the draw as they take on Carolina University their home opener slated for Sept. 2 at Sessions Field.
