GREENVILLE – Columbia International University men's soccer continued its recent success against Bob Jones University on Saturday, defeating the Bruins 3-1 at Alumni Stadium to give head coach Anthony Gehman his first victory at the helm of the Rams. The victory marked CIU's third consecutive win over Bob Jones and improved the Rams' all-time record against the Bruins to 9-6-2.
Ezekiel Bargas powered the CIU attack with a pair of goals, while Landon Guevara added a goal of his own. The Rams outshot the Bruins 15-6 and put 10 attempts on frame compared with just two for Bob Jones. Bargas opened the scoring in the 14th minute, finishing a chance off an assist from Cristhian Molina to put CIU ahead 1-0. The Rams carried that advantage into halftime.
CIU wasted little time adding to its lead after the break. Guevara found the back of the net in the 50th minute to double the Rams' advantage at 2-0. Bob Jones cut the deficit to one in the 69th minute, but CIU responded less than 10 minutes later. Bargas struck again in the 79th minute off an assist from Turner Ferguson, restoring the Rams' two-goal advantage and securing the 3-1 victory.
Bargas finished with a game-high five shots, including three on goal, while Guevara recorded four shots and put two on frame. Goalkeeper Vasilios Diakomihali played all 90 minutes and made one save while allowing just one goal.
The Rams return to action Tuesday, Sept. 1, when they travel to Pensacola Christian College. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
