COLUMBIA, S.C. — CIU baseball split an Appalachian Athletic Conference doubleheader with Reinhardt (Ga.) on Saturday, falling 8-0 in the opener before bouncing back with a 5-4 win in game two. Reinhardt claimed the weekend series after taking game one on Friday. The doubleheader marked the conclusion of the AAC regular-season for the Rams.
Game One: Reinhardt 8, CIU 0
Reinhardt broke through in the middle innings and pulled away late to take the opener.
After a scoreless first three innings, Reinhardt pushed across a run in the fourth before adding two more in the sixth to build a 3-0 lead. The Eagles continued to add on, scoring once in the seventh and erupting for three runs in the ninth to seal the win.
CIU was limited to five hits in the contest, with Jennings Greene and Corbin Wright each recording two hits to lead the Rams offensively.
On the mound, Matthew Garris went seven innings, allowing four runs while striking out five before the bullpen took over late.
Game Two: CIU 5, Reinhardt 4
The Rams responded in game two, using a big early surge and strong relief pitching to secure the split.
Reinhardt struck first in the opening inning, but CIU answered with two runs in the bottom half on a two-run double from Wright. The Rams added three more runs in the second inning, highlighted by RBI hits from Greene, Kai Smith, and Wright to take a 5-4 lead.
From there, CIU's pitching took control. Collin Otte delivered a dominant relief outing, tossing 5.2 innings while allowing just one run and striking out seven to earn the win.
Wright finished with three RBIs, while Smith added two hits and Greene scored twice as CIU held on for the victory.
