WALESKA, Ga. — CIU softball dropped an Appalachian Athletic Conference doubleheader to Reinhardt (Ga.), a team receiving votes in the latest NAIA Top 25 poll, on Saturday afternoon. The Rams fell 1-0 in the opener before dropping game two, 3-1. CIU now stands at 21-9 overall and 4-6 in conference play.
Game One: Reinhardt 1, CIU 0: The opener was a pitcher's duel, with Reinhardt scoring the game's lone run in the second inning.
Reinhardt used a pair of hits in the inning to push across the deciding run, and neither team was able to generate much offense the rest of the way.
CIU was held hitless in the contest, drawing two walks but unable to break through offensively.
In the circle, Isabella Davis turned in a strong performance, allowing just one run on four hits over six innings while striking out two.
Game Two: Reinhardt 3, CIU 1: Reinhardt struck early in game two, using a three-run first inning to take control.CIU answered in the second inning when Kami Meekins drove in a run on a groundout to cut the deficit to 3-1. The Rams recorded six hits in the game but were unable to push across another run.
Tristan Phillips, Abigail Guthrie, Gabriella Czuczuk, Lilli Petty, and Carmella Korte each recorded hits for CIU, while Czuczuk scored the Rams' lone run.
In the circle, Raleigh Stewart provided stability in relief, tossing five scoreless innings and allowing just one hit while striking out three.
