DENMARK, S.C. - CIU softball took a short trip to take on Voorhees University (S.C.) Saturday afternoon. The Rams hold all-time 5-0 record over the Tigers and extended this to 7-0 with two victories today. CIU has started the season 4-0 for the first time in program history.
Game One: CIU 6 VU 0: The Rams struck first, scoring a run in the opening frame, but both teams were held scoreless until the seventh inning. A two run double from Raleigh Stewart, an RBI single from Lilli Petty, and another two run double from Hannah Murphy added five for CIU. Stewart struck out the side in the bottom of the seventh to secure a 6-0 victory.
Petty led the team with three hits, while Abigail Guthrie and Tristan Phillips recorded two. The Rams lineup combined for five doubles. Stewart broke the single game record for strikeouts with 16 and allowed just one hit.
Game Two: CIU 6 VU 3: Sac flies from Gabriella Czuczuk and Sophia Noriega-Mora put CIU on the board in the second inning. They extended their lead in the third off of three hits and three errors, including doubles from Phillips and Guthrie. Voorhees battle back in the fourth scoring three of their own to cut the deficit in half. Both teams went scoreless for the remainder of the game, allowing CIU to take home their second victory of the day.
Stewart led the team with two hits and Czuczuk led the team with two RBIs. Isabella Davis recorded her second win of the season, with six strikeouts in 7.0 innings of work.
