COLUMBIA, S.C. — CIU split its Saturday doubleheader at the Cola Classic, defeating Point (Ga.) 5-2 before falling to Brewton-Parker (Ga.) 7-4, moving to 8-2 on the season.

In the opener, the Rams used late offense and strong pitching to secure the win. Isabella Davis earned the victory after allowing just two hits and one run — none earned — over five innings with three walks and two strikeouts, while Hailey Whidden recorded the save with two innings of relief.

CIU broke a 1-1 tie with two runs in the fifth inning, then added insurance in the seventh when Caydon Thompson delivered a two-run double. Gabriella Czuczuk scored twice and drove in a run, and the Rams totaled seven hits in the win.

Point managed just three hits and both of its runs were unearned.

In game two, Brewton-Parker built an early lead and held off a CIU rally. The Barons scored once in the first and three times in the third, then added two runs in the fifth and one in the seventh to secure the victory.

CIU responded with a three-run fourth inning to cut the deficit to 4-3, highlighted by an RBI single from Caydon Thompson and a sacrifice fly by Sophia Noriega-Mora. The Rams added another run in the fifth on a Gabriella Czuczuk RBI single, but could get no closer.

Abigail Guthrie, Czuczuk, Lilli Petty and Katie Rhyne each recorded doubles as CIU finished with 10 hits in the game. Brewton-Parker collected 14 hits in the win.

CIU returns to action Tuesday, Feb. 17, traveling to Allen University for a doubleheader.
