AUGUSTA, Ga. — CIU men's golf clinched its third consecutive NCCAA South Region Championship on Tuesday, pulling away from the field at Goshen Plantation Golf Course with a 14-stroke victory.
Braydon Hileman led the Rams in the final round with a 2-over-par 74 to finish tied for fourth overall. Nate Caughman and Luke Hammond each carded a 75 (+3), with Caughman finishing the tournament as the individual runner-up and Hammond joining Hileman in fourth. Andrew Haarlow rounded out CIU's team scoring with a solid 76, while Santos Espinosa added an 81.
Head coach Major McWhorter spoke on his team's performance, saying, "After a long Round One in extremely difficult conditions, we were able to bounce back in Round Two. Very proud of how our team fought when things didn't go our way. We are learning about ourselves each week and are hitting our stride as we head into a busy October. Saw lots of potential with the young guys, Braydon and Nate, and relied on senior leadership with Luke and Andrew."
The Rams' steady play across the lineup sealed the program's third straight regional crown as they now set their sights on the Koala Classic, Oct. 6 & 7.
