GREENVILLE, S.C. — CIU men's soccer erupted for three second-half goals to secure a 3-1 season-opening victory over Bob Jones University on Tuesday night at Alumni Stadium.
After a scoreless first half, CIU broke through in the 51st minute when Ive Celic scored the game's first goal. Celic, who was a constant threat all evening with six shots and two on target, later added an assist on the Rams' second goal.
Juan Ospina doubled the lead in the 64th minute, with an assist from Celic. Though Bob Jones answered in the 66th minute, the Rams sealed the win in the 89th when Florian Baumgaertner converted off another assist from Celic.
CIU, now 1-0 on the season, will look to carry the momentum into its next match as the Rams continue nonconference play taking on Carolina University (N.C.) at home on Sept. 2.
