TOCCOA FALLS, Ga. - CIU baseball hit the road Wednesday afternoon for a midweek matchup against Toccoa Falls College (17-19). The Rams (22-16) jumped out to an early lead and maintained control throughout, topping the Screaming Eagles 16-8.
CIU 16 TFC 8: The Rams wasted no time getting on the board, batting through the lineup in the opening inning and scoring five runs thanks to hits from Eric Doyon and Collin Greer, along with a pair of sacrifice flies. After a quiet second inning from both teams, Toccoa Falls responded in the third, tying the game at 5-5. CIU answered quickly in the top of the fourth, reclaiming the lead with two-run homers from Daniel Sidoti and Tre Williams. The Screaming Eagles chipped away with a run in the bottom of the inning, cutting the deficit to three (9-6). CIU added insurance in the fifth with a bases-loaded hit-by-pitch to Kai Smith and back-to-back doubles from Greer and Tanner Henderson, stretching the lead to 12-6. Toccoa Falls added two more in the sixth, but the Rams tacked on three final runs—two in the eighth off three hits and a pair of errors, and another in the ninth on Sidoti's second home run of the day. Connor Kirkley closed it out with a flyout and two strikeouts to seal the 16-8 win.
