KINGSPORT, TENN. - CIU Softball (24-24) secured their second win of the Appalachian Athletic Conference Tournament with a 7-3 victory over No. 5 seed Montreat College (N.C.). The Rams jumped ahead in the first inning and held the lead the rest of the way to keep their postseason run going.

CIU 7 Montreat 3: The Rams got on the board early in the top of the first as a sacrifice fly from Dallas Mayers brought home Abigail Guthrie. Mayers added to the lead in the third with a sacrifice bunt to make it 2-0. In the fourth, CIU capitalized on a Montreat error, followed by a sac bunt from Sophia Noriega and an RBI single from Guthrie to extend the lead to 4-0. The Rams tacked on three more runs in the fifth behind four hits, including an RBI single from Lilli Petty. Montreat responded with two runs in the bottom of the inning, but Isabella Davis's fourth strikeout ended the threat. The Cavaliers added one more in the seventh, but the Rams held firm to seal the 7-3 win.

Box Score Highlights: 

• Guthrie, Cayton Thompson, and Megan Stolzenbach notched multiple hits. 

• Mayers led the team with two RBI. 

• Davis struck out four in her twelfth win of the season–the program record for wins in a single season.
