Lions get the better of Rams in late-season meeting

DAYTON, Tenn. - On Saturday, CIU women's basketball faced off with Bryan College, a team in the top half of the Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC). The second meeting between the two teams mirrored the first from earlier in the season, as the Rams played a competitive game but came up short 78-50.

The first two quarters of Saturday's matchup went solidly in the Lions favor but CIU saw offensive success out of senior Mariah Leinbach who scored 11 first half points as the Rams trailed 37-20 at the break.

Leinbach then scored nine in the third as the Rams were outscored by the Lions by just one (19-18) in period three. CIU would shoot 50% from beyond the arc in the fourth, but the deficit the Rams faced was too much to overcome before the final horn.

Leinbach scored a season-high 25 points on 10-of-18 shooting while connecting on four 3-pointers. Maggie Mihaljevic scored nine for CIU and grabbed five rebounds, while Katlynn Chinn chipped in seven points.

The Rams shot an admirable 7-of-18 from 3-point range.

Up Next: CIU takes on Bluefield University (Va.) in what will be Senior Night in the Moore Fitness Center on Wednesday, Feb. 19, at 7:30 p.m. ET.
