SPARTANBURG, S.C. - The Rams headed to the Upstate to take on Spartanburg Methodist College for a Monday night contest. The Pioneers took an early lead, but CIU battled back for a 10-2 victory and started the week back in the win column. The Rams are now 5-4 on the season, with conference play beginning this weekend.
CIU 10 SMC 2: Despite letting SMC take a 1-0 lead in the second inning, the Rams responded with three runs in the third. A two-RBI single from Tre Williams and an RBI single from Mason Turner gave the Rams a 3-1 lead. CIU extended this lead in the fourth with five runs off four hits, including a two-RBI single from Collin Greer (8-1). Bradley Garland took advantage of a wild pitch to tack on another run in the fifth, and Greer pushed Daniel Sidoti across the plate in the sixth to lead 10-1. The Pioneers added another run in the bottom of the sixth to bring the score to 10-2, and then both teams went scoreless in the final three frames to give CIU an early week win.
