CIU picks up midweek win over in-state opponent

SUMTER, S.C. — CIU men's basketball extended its winning streak to four straight games on Wednesday night, defeating Morris College 74–65 on the road in a non-conference matchup.

CIU (4–2) shot an efficient 56.9 percent from the field and used a balanced offensive effort to control the game from start to finish. The Rams led 38–34 at halftime before pushing their advantage to as many as 12 points in the second half.

James Davis led the Rams with 15 points on 6-of-8 shooting, knocking down three three-pointers while adding four rebounds and two steals. Johnny Whysong followed with 14 points and seven rebounds, while Will Kelly also scored 14 points and distributed five assists.

Rhett Warga provided nine points and four rebounds, and Jeffrey Clark, II delivered a strong all-around performance with eight points, nine rebounds, and four assists. Off the bench, JJ Vaughan added 10 points, hitting two threes while going 2-for-2 at the free-throw line.

CIU outscored Morris 38–26 in the paint and recorded 14 second-chance points while holding the Hornets to just 40 percent shooting from the free-throw line.

Morris dropped to 1–3 overall with the loss.

CIU continues its road swing on Saturday, Nov. 15, traveling to face Pikeville at 4 p.m. ET.
